Government Official Confirms Ministry of Defence Examining Potential Threat from Vehicles from China, as Staff Instructed to Avoid Confidential Discussions in Vehicles.

An defense minister has stated that the Ministry of Defence is currently examining the possible threats associated with Chinese cars, while staff have been told to refrain from discussing secret matters in all vehicles.

Safety Advice for Defence Staff

During a recently aired interview on a radio station, a defence minister addressed claims that MoD staff have been told not to discuss secret material while riding in Chinese cars.

He said that the ministry is “examining” Chinese vehicles within its vehicle pools, but stressed that security is a issue in all contemporary cars.

Our department has a collection of thousands of cars in the Ministry of Defence and Chinese ones account for a very small number.
But whether you’re traveling in a vehicle from China or a non-Chinese car, our instruction to our staff is not to plug MoD technology into their vehicle, not to have conversations at a secret level in any vehicle, because of the growing risks of surveillance that exist in every single vehicle, to only have those secret talks in secure locations. That’s a prudent and sensible thing for anyone concerned about security.

When it was put to him that it would be wise for the MoD to cease using all cars from China, Pollard replied: That is precisely what we are looking into at the moment.”

Wider Security Context

This announcement follows claims from Scandinavian countries have warned the United Kingdom to the presence of multi-purpose kill switches in Chinese electric buses, which could allow the Chinese government to switch off buses and cause disruption to transport systems.

Furthermore, a Russia spy ship was reportedly shining laser beams at RAF aircrew, labeled a “highly dangerous” act by government representatives.

This wider security situation underscores the significance of robust protocols and caution in every areas of government operations, from vehicle usage to communication habits.
